Some really good news about Dippy-chan and some not bad news about Bastet.
Bastet has been losing weight over the past year and recently it had picked up speed. She'd also had a lot of trouble with her digestive system in general. The previous vet had diagnosed IBS, but I took her to the new vet to have her checked out. We don't know a lot yet, but she is doing a little better. Xrays aren't very revealing, but there was nothing horrible on them so that's good. She has a referral for an ultrasound that I need to have scheduled soon. I'm giving her a little break this week to destress her, but I will need to follow up with that eventually. Vet cut her prednisolone back to 1/4 tablet a day from 1/2 tablet and added Flagyl. In people that's an antibiotic, but apparently in cats acts as an antiinflammatory for the intestinal lining. Very cool and very effective. Bastet's blood tests revealed a massive Cobalamin insufficiency so I'm now giving her weekly injections. For the first week while the tests were running, she was getting a nightly IV under the fur over her back which did wonders. It was scary how fast she got sick, but I'm cautiously optimistic right now.
Dippy-chan is finally responding to her antifungal treatments and her blood tests showed a much reduced titer. The swelling in her face is almost completely gone and she's bouncing around the house like the naughty cat we remember. She'll have to continue the medication for another two months to make certain that it is completely killed off, but it's all good for now.

I'm enjoying having the ability to see TV Japan with our new FIOS set up and one of the best parts is being able to see all the sumo tournaments from beginning to end. When we lived in CA I was able to catch a few highlights here and there on the sports channels at 3am, but never whole tournaments. It's been wonderful to be able to see so much and this year's tournaments have been very exciting. Cut for spoilers in case you folks have not yet seen the results and want to watch on you tube or something. ( Read more... ) The matches were terrific this time around and while it would have been nice to see them in person, the coverage on TV Japan is wonderful and I feel very grateful to have seen it.

Today I took the step of locking up my scrapbook on LJ. It wasn't something that I really wanted to do, a great many of my galleries were public and I didn't mind sharing some things, but this bot problem has gotten completely out of control. I'm getting 'friended' by two bots a day and as fast as I report them and get them removed, there are more to take their place. At any given time recently there have been between two to eight bots spying on my stuff. I'm not that interesting a person, honestly, so I can't understand why this is happening. This is getting out of hand though and LJ's response is highly unsatisfactory. The whole thing leaves me feeling like I need to take a shower and I spend as much time dealing with it as I do answering comments these days. Anyhow, if there are any pics that you wanted to see that you no longer can, let me know and I'll adjust the security settings, but for the moment it's all under a tight filter.

It's time for one of my survey memes.
I've posted surveys before on my other journals about favorite anime and manga, but since I've recently been dragged, kicking and screaming, into a tv fandom, I thought the time was right to re-run the survey with a few added questions.
Favorite anime/manga/tvseries? Give as many as you'd like.
Favorite slashable series to read?
and what are your favorites that no one seems to be writing for?

Feeling a little stiff and sore today, but very accomplished.
Got a burr under my saddle this weekend about the mess that is my house and now that I have some energy, I finally decided to do something about it. My husband is really starting to hate this.
Under a cut for those not interested in home renovation projects.
I'm 12 days out from my last acupuncture appointment and still going strong. Stiff and sore and limping like mad, but loads more energy than I've had for a while. This procedure is lasting a whole lot longer than anything we've tried before. Not sure how much of it is the treatment and how much is the no dairy thing, but I'm not in the mood to mess with success. I'm keeping on with the dairy free as long as ninjaburgermngr and tigerblak let me get away with it.
Anyway, back to the house stuff. Got a small 5 cubic foot freezer so that I can store the batches of cat food without taking over the whole freezer portion of our upstairs fridge. It's been sort of crowding out the ice cubes and veggies to say nothing of the ice cream/rice cream.
While I was at Lowe's, I picked up two cans of paint. We live in a rental house, so I can't do anything drastic, but the creamy colored walls hadn't been painted before we moved in and have been driving me nuts. I got a nice high gloss white with just a little grey undertone to keep it from blinding us and put a nice coat in my bathroom. So much brighter and cleaner. Yay. Very happy.
Hubs wasn't terribly enthused about the project, but did help rolling after I cut in the edges with the brush and rinsed after I washed the walls before getting started. Invested in some new storage stuff too and got a lot of things tossed, sorted, and organized before moving it all back in.
It's amazing what a coat of paint, new rods and rings, bathmat, and organizers will do for a girl's outlook. Bathrooms should be user friendly and you will probably find me hanging out in mine for the next week, especially if things get stressful. It always cheers me up to look at a household success when things go wrong around here.
I know, woohoo, what a thrilling weekend. I'm an easy date, but not cheap.
In a completely unrelated note, I'm giving serious thought to cutting off the eartails. Aya's moved on, maybe it's time for me to as well.
Hope all of you had a nice weekend and a pleasant start to the week this week. *hugs flist*

Just a first post to get started here on IJ. Eventually I will copy and cross post entries to all four of my journals, but for now I'm still in the setting up phase.
Not sure where we'll all end up washing ashore when the dust finally settles over at LJ, but I'm determined not to lose track of any of my good friends over this stupidity.
